He had a daughter that played on a boys team and he treated his daughter and Michigan very differently. She endured so much but still continued to be the best that she could be. She has very real emotions and interactions with her friends. Michigan is a very strong and relatable girl. This story deals with many heavy topics and it was addressed well. the Boys kept me hooked throughout, but there were many parts that I cringed at. The ending was good and I hope that in real life – if something like this was to happen – the ending would be just the same.

It was difficult to read and difficult to understand the choices Michigan kept making. The entire boys’ hockey team was horrific, and my blood boiled reading it.

I did not like Michigan’s mother, nor the choices she made involving her daughter, particular toward the end of the book. I enjoyed the relationship between her and her younger brother, Trent, whose hockey team she also coaches. She is a true athlete, who works hard at her craft. But once hazing crosses the line into assault, Michigan must weight the consequences of staying silent – even if it means putting her future on the line.” “She plays some of the best hockey of her life, in fact, all while putting up with the changing in the broom closet, constant trash talk and ‘harmless’ pranks that always seem to target her. Luckily, there is one team left and Michigan tries out and gets picked for the boys’ team, which isn’t exactly the most welcoming. That is until budget cuts forces the cancellation of the girl’s hockey team, and Michigan’s chance to impress college scouts. Hockey is Michigan Manning’s life and this is her year to shine. Michigan vs The Boys was a great book – fast read, compelling characters and a story that makes you sad, happy and so angry you would like to throttle the entire boys’ hockey team, its coach and a few other people for good measure.
